My Story about Marin Waves and Track Club

By Adeline Johnson, grade 6, San Domenico School

Marin Waves Track Club is a great way to meet people from all over Marin and you get a very great workout every practice. Dave, the coach, offers sprinting, middle distance, distance, and field events in track and field. It’s really fun to train with a nice coach and nice kids. In every workout, Dave helps you improve your speed, strength, and form.

During track season, you have the opportunity to go to all-day meets all over the Bay Area. If you perform well enough, you can qualify for national Junior Olympics. It’s a huge meet with the best youth athletes in the country. Also, you can meet really nice people from all around the country that you wouldn’t have known without doing track. I trained every day to qualify, and to get All American. All American is a title you get if you are in the top eight in your event out of the whole country. When I was training, I improved so much from the first track meet to nationals. Marin Waves really helps you achieve your full potential and you will have fun while training for your goal. It’s really an amazing feeling to know that all your hard work payed off to reach your goal.

In cross country season, you run long distances on really beautiful trails throughout the Bay Area. I got to train with friends, then go with them to all the meets. National Junior Olympics for cross country was really fun. I got to travel across the country with my team and have a lot of fun the whole trip. I raced against four hundred girls, which was really cool! If you want to take your running to the next level, join the Waves!
