Funny. Sassy. Original. Beach Blanket Babylon 2013

Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s North Beach district, Beach Blanket Babylon is the longest running musical revue in theater history. Since Steve Silver founded it in 1974, it has been known internationally for it’s extravagant costumes, over-the-top hats ranging from 50-300 pounds, and hilarious puns of pop culture and political characters. This show is a once in a lifetime experience and follows the story of Snow White who has moved to San Francisco, in search of love. She finds out she has to travel to cities of the world to find the love she is looking for. Along the way, she encounters a line-up of comedic pop culture characters, including Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Adele, Barack and Michelle Obama, Michael Jackson, and many more.

At Beach Blanket Babylon, you never know what to expect. The changes in the script are made in response to actual events that occur in the news. The actors need to be prepared to learn new material and songs at any time. We saw the performance the day after Kim Kardashian had her baby. During the previous late night show, other cast members were surprised to learn about the baby’s birth during the show, when the actress playing Kim sang a new song about having her baby. The script changes more often than the songs because changing the lines in a song is more difficult. The songs need to sound good, the lyrics must rhyme, it must make sense, and it needs to be funny.
