After observing their meeting, we were excited to have an up-close and personal interview with the Chronicle’s new Editor in Chief, Audrey Cooper. She spoke about her life as a mother, wife, and new leadership position at the Chronicle. As the first woman editor in the Chronicle’s 150-year history, and the youngest woman in US history to be the editor of a major US newspaper-based media company, Cooper brings a different perspective than most traditional newspaper editors to the publishing world. “My bias as a 37-year-old woman is different than the biases of a 70-year-old white man,” she said. “So what it means to be a woman in this industry is that I bring a woman’s perspective to the news.”
Even though Cooper’s accomplishments are unprecedented, she’s not superhuman. “I get very tired sometimes,” she began. “We’re all running on fumes.”
